As many homeowners know, you can turn on the faucet and wait for the water to heat up for a very long time - sometimes more than 2 or 3 minutes. That waiting time is literally washing away gallons of wasted, good, clean water not to mention energy. Simply put, hot water recirculation saves cooled water from being dumped down the drain while waiting for hot water. Hot water cools once you turn off your water. Lukewarm water in the hot pipe is bypassed into the cold supply line. A pump, sensor, switch and bypass valve provide automatic operation so that there is always hot water at the sink. Because the cooling hot water uses the cold water supply line to return the water to the tank, you will experience some warm water from the cold water faucet. Once the cold water is turned on, the warm water is flushed out quickly.
The AquaMotion AMH2K-7 is a great, affordable and easy to install option for hot water instantly to all of your water fixtures. It is for use with a standard hot water heater with a dedicated return line. This is a 3 pipe system which includes a hot water line, cold water line and a dedicated return. The circulator/pump itself is installed right into the return pipe with mounting at least 3 feet from the cold discharge from the tank. If a check valve is used in the cold water line, connect the dedicated return line to the cold water supply to the tank between the tank and the check valve. The 24 hr built-in timer includes 15 minute interval tabs, giving you the option of setting up 3 timed settings for the pump to run. The non-adjustable Aquastat will tell the pump to run when the water at the fixture starts to drop below 85°F. It will run until it reaches 105°F and then it will shut off.
All of the moving parts of the AquaMotion AMH2K-7 recirculator are housed in a "Green Eco Cartridge Design". It is the only field serviceable and replaceable cartridge available. With this design, simply remove the rotor assembly, flush the cartridge with water and reinstall it. Simple, cost effective, patented technology!
