This is the indoor air handler ONLY.

The AMST air handler uses a direct-drive, multi-speed Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM) to improve efficiency and performance. It features a 9-tap ECM motor, providing nine selectable speed settings for enhanced comfort, quieter operation, and better airflow control. Unlike a true variable-speed system, the AMST is a multi-speed, constant torque design. This means you select a preset torque (speed) setting, and the motor maintains that output during operation rather than continuously adjusting airflow.

While the AMST can operate at different selected speeds depending on system configuration, it does not modulate continuously based on real-time demand. Instead, it runs at the chosen setting and cycles on and off as needed. In contrast, a variable-speed (AMVT) system uses a constant airflow motor that continuously adjusts its speed to maintain consistent comfort, typically running for longer periods at lower speeds and making gradual adjustments rather than cycling frequently.

The series also features internal factory-installed thermal expansion valves (TXV) for cooling and heat pump applications. The AMST can be installed horizontally or vertically and is only 21" deep - making it easier for attic or closet installation. Optional electric heater kits (sold separately) are available for the AMST36CU1300 from 3kW up to 19kW.

The AMST36CU1300 is a 36,000 BTU (3 ton) air handler. It can be used with several different condensers. Depending on the series, the air handler can be used with 2, 2-1/2 and 3 ton condensers:
