Evaporator coils are used in combination with split air conditioners - with or without heat pumps. The Goodman CAPT4961D4 indoor evaporator coil is a cased coil with factory-installed thermal expansion valve (TXV) for cooling and heat pump applications. A TXV regulates the rate the refrigerant flows into the evaporator, depending on conditions, for optimum performance. The CAPT4961D4 can be used with 48,000 (4 ton) to 60,000 (5 ton) BTU systems.

All Goodman coil feature an all-aluminum tube and fin coil construction. Goodman uses a single metal, aluminum, and a grooved tube help to provide the maximum in heat transfer efficiency. Aluminum construction helps to withstand potential corrosion. Goodman coils match other components like furnaces with their galvanized leather grain-embossed finish. Each unit features foil-faced insulation on the interior of the casing to reduce cabinet moisture. A split seam is located on the front of the cabinet for easy access. Thermoplastic drain pans resist rust and the detrimental effects of UV rays. They are constructed of DecaBDE-free thermoplastic and have a shallow design.

The CAPT series of evaporator coils can be installed for use in an upflow or downflow application. A downflow installation is typically used for attic installations, whereas an upflow installation is mainly in a low point of the dwelling. The CAPT evaporator coils require R410A refrigerant.

Uncased coils are typically used in replacement installations in which you are inserting the coil into pre-existing ductwork.
