Evaporator coils are used in conjunction with split air conditioners - with or without heat pumps. The Goodman CAPT3131B4 indoor evaporator coil is a cased coil with factory-installed thermal expansion valve (TXV) for cooling and heat pump applications. A TXV regulates the rate the refrigerant flows into the evaporator, depending on conditions, for optimum performance. The CAPT3131B4 can be used with 30,000 (2.5 ton) systems, and will fit 17.5" wide furnaces.

All Goodman coils feature an all-aluminum tube and fin coil design. Goodman uses a single metal, aluminum, and a grooved tube help to give the utmost in heat transfer efficiency. Aluminum construction helps to withstand potential corrosion. The cabinet is finished in the same galvanized, leather grain-embossed finish as other Goodman system components. Foil-faced insulation covers the casing inside to reduce cabinet condensate. A split seam is located on the front of the cabinet for easy access. Drain pans feature a low water-retention design and are made of DecaBDE-free thermoplastic. The thermoplastic design resists rust and is UV-resistant.

The CAPT series of evaporator coils can be connected for use in an upflow or downflow application. A downflow installation is typically used for attic installations, whereas an upflow installation is ordinarily in a cellar of the dwelling. The CAPT evaporator coils utilize R410A refrigerant.

They must be paired with the condenser unit in a split system - with or without a heat pump, as well as match the furnace for a proper/exact fit. Uncased coils are typically used in replacement installations in which you are inserting the coil into pre-existing ductwork. 

The unit cabinet is 21" deep for easier attic access. Professional installation by an HVAC technician is required. An HVAC installer will have the experience required to make sure your new system is up and running properly.
