Using a heat pump pool heater is an extremely efficient way to heat your pool. The Nirvana heat pump uses the outside air to heat the water in your pool. By utilizing the warm outside air, very little electricity is needed to heat the pool water. The warmth from the air is transferred to the pool water through a double coil titanium heat exchanger. Nirvana uses a high grade titanium double coil for optimal efficiency. Titanium resists erosion and corrosion, helping your system to last longer.
Because the Nirvana pool heater is a heat pump, it uses electricity rather than gas - either natural or propane. The only heat it generates is the small amount needed to capture the outside air and move it into the heat exchanger coil of the heat pump. Warm air is drawn into the compressor through the 18 fin per inch evaporator with enhanced surface copper tubing to help maximize the heat transfer. The cold pool water is pulled into the heat exchanger, heated and then circulated back into your pool.
All Nirvana Heat Pump Pool Heaters have a coefficient of performance (COP) of 6.0 or better. The COP is the efficiency with which the heat pump transfers the heated air into the pool water. The Nirvana heat pumps are AHRI certified and the COP is rated to its standards. Nirvana Heat Pump Pool Heaters offer the highest COP in the field. The COP takes into account many external factors including the ambient air temperature, the humidity level and the water temperature. The higher the COP, the more efficient the system. For example, the Nirvana heat pumps each have a COP of 6.0 or higher when measured at 80°F, 80% humidity and 80°F water. In layman's terms, this means for every kilowatt of of electricity consumed, 6.0 kw of heat goes into the pool. This is an extremely efficient machine for your use. Obviously when the elements change, the COP changes as well.
The outer cabinet of the heat pump is a fiberglass casing that is durable, easy to clean and helps to reduce the noise typical of a gas heater. The Nirvana heat pump has a digital control panel that is easy to read and easy to use. The system can be connected to an external relay system that can be controlled over WiFi. Optional WiFi control is available for Android or Apple. It easily allows remote access to check or change the water temperature, enable or disable the filter as well as adjust the filtration cycle per day. The WiFi module (A40WIFIFC, sold separately) will work with Nirvana Heat Pump Pool Heaters equipped with Smart Fan Technology. These include the FC80, FC100, FC120 and FC140.

For heat pump sizing, Nirvana recommends a minimum ratio of 4 BTUs / gallon (1 BTU / liter) of water in your pool.
Using a heat pump to continually maintain your water temperature at 80°F from May to September will cost approximately 1/6 or 84% less than a conventional gas heater.
